The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under home confinement.

The ex-president was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending appeals.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a precautionary step after fresh information came to light.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the judge said information from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his getaway".
