Ten individuals convicted of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of spreading fabrications regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A longstanding conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's identity.
Their complaint alleges that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The couple married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
