Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
